Pink + Coffee = Happy
It's a Random Monday.
Maybe it's because school is starting. I always feel like the beginning of the year is right here- at the onset of September.
School is in- almost. I'm totally excited about this because I love school season. I love fall and pumpkins and kids with all their enthusiasm walking to school and pumpkin spice lattes and apples and pies and wearing the color orange and wrapping scarves around necks and watching leaves turn beautiful and sweaters and jumping into the leaves when no one is looking.
I don't really jump in leaves anymore, but I do think about it.
But honestly, I wanted to throw out some fun stuff I've seen that maybe you'd like to know about.
Some of it's random and there a few useful things too.
Think of this as a "let's enjoy the last week of summer" post.
And all the great back-to-school sales.
1. For example, the craft store Michaels has major sales going on right now. This is THE time to brush up on art supplies- for you or your kiddos.
Art supplies for writers are fabulous finds: try journaling or brainstorm in a big, oversized sketch books. They are bigger than a typical journal. Plus, they are great for tucking in random articles, stickers and snail mail that hasn't been read (or written) yet.
Plus, the blank pages are begging for a little color. Perfect opportunity to use the thin tip markers or colored pencils.
2. Evernote. Because life happens and you lose everything.
So not only did I have a major computer crash after my backup program expired (yea, I already know how dumb it was to let it expire in the first place. Major. Life. Lesson. Learned.)
I've also started "losing" notes on the note app in my phone. Like a LOT of notes. I don't know if I was pushing random buttons or sitting on the delete button or the phone is playing an early April-fool's joke on me. I just know several notes went MIA without my a.o.k.
I use my notes app on the phone like the pad of paper next to my bed- like many of you.
I get the best ideas for books, blog posts, artwork, products, etc. when I'm not sitting in front of the computer. So I use the app on my phone.
Until now.
Evernote. It's free. It records pictures, notes, stuff from the web you want to read but don't have time to right now or before the computer is going to get shut down.
And everything is stored in the cloud so it's going to magically disappear on me.
At least I hope.
3. Hot Tamales.
They got me through school and they are my late night snack when I'm writing. These cinnamon chewy candies are the perfect candy to write to.
Did you know there is a "3 Sirens Hot Tamale" with three different kinds of hot tamales- all with different degrees of hotness. Phew. Where is the ice water? I didn't think I could eat a cinnamon candy that I would categorize as too hot but I've met my match.
Heads up, these guys are hard to find. So far they've been located at Walgreens.
4. Lean In by Sheryl Sandburg
I'm still trying to get my head around this book. I've thought about it a lot and have a jumble of emotions, thoughts and reactions.
I'm still playing with the idea of writing a blog post about it. We'll see.
It is a provocative read with a lot of stimulating thoughts and ideas.
5. The Secrets of Baking by Sherry Yard
Yes, I read cookbooks. It's such a huge world out there, the very sweet and sometimes savory world of baking, pastries, cookies and chocolate.
Now that I've made my way through it, I need to experiment.
And go to Spago in Hollywood and eat at her restaurant.
I don't need to see celebrities or the Hollywood Walk of Fame- I just want to eat ganache made by Sherry Yard.
6. 25- the number of paintbrushes in my pen and pencil stand on my desk. Why do I have so many? I have more paintbrushes than writing utensils but I write more than I paint.
7. Favorite quote for this week:
Success is walking from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm. Winston Churchill
Is that enough randomness?
I know Monday's are usually "Motivation Monday" but I just couldn't get a clear motivational down that was ready for you. I've got a good post baking for next Monday though. (the pun was totally intended).
Anything random in your brain on this Monday night?
