I'm always a bit of a drone on the day after Christmas. Maybe it's the excess sugar, maybe it's the fact that for a month so much energy goes into one day- the planning, the music, the food and the baking, the late nights and lots of driving, trying to fit it all in and stay merry in the process. Whatever the reason, December 26th meets me with a lack of energy and get-up-and-go.
Ah, the post-Christmas letdown.
I don't consider it a bad thing anymore; it just is. It's a good time to do a little reflection, catch up on reading (and dishes), and dabble in a few projects that didn't get done.
Some years I'm ready for Christmas to be up and out of the house, the refrigerator, and the cd player of the car. And other years I want it to linger for a little bit longer. It's like the pressure is off- was there something in my heart to do that I can still do? It's not unlike me to still mail out a few more Christmas cards or watch Christmas with the Kranks one more time.
In the onslaught of the busy season, blog reading and DIY projects may have fallen off the list of "things I'd like to do this week." Here is my roundup of post-Christmas links to browse, think about, and a few fun projects to do.
1. Eggnog Cinnamon Rolls from a a Beautiful Mess blog
Too much eggnog in the fridge? Here's a fun and delicious recipe to use it in.
This season gifted me with the opportunity to spend a lot of time with my brother, sweet sis-in-law, and nephews. My brother and I have spent a lot of time baking together. One of our favorite "new" things to make? Cinnamon rolls. Our favorite recipes has been these ones from Sally's baking addiction, but I want to give these eggnog rolls a try before December comes to an end.
2. Holiday Stamped Peppermints (a DIY gift there is time left to do) by Heather at Sprinkle Bakes
3. Ever thought of what it might be like to celebrate Christmas in another country? Rincy guests posts on on the design blog Decor8 and shares about Christmas in Ireland. Beautiful pictures accompany the post.
4. A post about finding joy in the moment by our Canadian friends. I wrestle with trying to get it all done and letting it be and paying attention to the moment I'm in instead of thinking ahead to what must be done. Good food for thought.
5. Awesome post on savoring your season by entrepreneur and designer Whitney English. This is one of my favorite posts I've read this week; even though Christmas has passed, the spirit of Whitney's words are relevant for every season of life. It is a 2 minute read and wins my gold star status blog post of the week.
6. I found these on my favorite new food blog the emerging foodie . Simple. Easy. Delicious. Erin's pictures alone are enough to hook me. Although, when I went to find more candy canes all I could find were weird Swedish fish and funny candy flavored canes. As my brother said, "even spearmint would have been acceptable, but not Swedish fish!" Thank goodness I was able to find about 5 peppermint candy canes in my stash and my nephew also gave me one.
I didn't have a chance to make these for Christmas but I think it would be a perfect easy and fun DIY dessert to make (and eat).
7. Need a bit of quiet Christmas music as you clean (or enjoy a magazine or book). There are some /a>free Christmas music downloads on Amazon.
Happy December 26th!
