When life is stormy, it is utterly calming to know who holds us steady, strong, secure even in feelings of chaos.
For me, a canvas, paint, and music can help me process through the challenges of life. I don't really think about them; I just sit with them. The painting activates my subconscious and slowly things work themselves out, on the canvas, in the story, and in life.
For those of you who needed a reminder this Easter week: We are not helpless pieces of driftwood floating at the mercies of the waves and wind.
There is an anchor. Sometimes we just don't feel it until everything pulls on us so hard, it whips us out of the small circle we've been swimming in. We're flying through the waves, flailing our arms, trying to catch on to something, anything, that will catch us. Just as we are about to give up, let go, think there is no hope, there is nothing we can do, something holds us down. We look down and there it is, the anchor, keeping us steady.
We aren't flailing after all. We just didn't realize we are being held.
