All Work is Hard, but Keep Working

tulips-on-black-benchBuilding stuff is hard.

Starting a new blog, a new job, writing a book, learning a new language, making a move -any move that breaks you from your comfort zone- it’s all hard.

But you should still continue to build stuff, regardless of the challenge.

All work is hard.  Keep working.

It doesn’t matter WHAT it is, the birthing pains of starting and bringing a new creation to birth is painful.  We get, I get too consumed with the difficulty of the challenge, instead of just getting down to doing it.

The cure for pushing through most any bottleneck is found in two words: discipline and repetition.

Discipline and repetition are not fun, glamorous, exciting or rewarding. But! (And it’s a big but), the outcomes of applying discipline and repetition to something is the difference maker.

My thoughts are circling around this concept as I work through some tough spots in my own journey with a new book and itty biz projects. The temptation to move on and give up is strong at times.  Why does settling for what is known and easy become more attractive than journeying into the unknown?  Am I too concerned with the end result?

I finally figured out that I have been sloppy in my habits, lacking discipline and repetition and feeling the unwelcome outcomes.  Ugh.

Seth Godin wrote his 5,000 blog post this week.  He has daily written a blog post for the past several years, regardless of what is going on in his life, no matter how busy he is or where he is.  He calls this the “Drip method.”  You can check out his post Here . I highly recommend you do.

Seth epitomizes the beauty of the building formula:

a little Discipline + Repetition = Slow but Steady Growth

Julie Andrews said, “Some people regard discipline as a chore.  For me, it is a kind of order that sets me free to fly.”

May the coming weeks and months see us strengthening our flying wings as we launch our creative projects and work.

Back to work.
